We paid an attorney in maine to do an investigation for us to allow us a temporary visa into canada. He has basically stolen the money. Is there an organization like the american medical association, for attornies, that we can report him to to try to get the money back? Thanks for your help.

Bar Association, like the Better Business Bureau is a membership organization. They have no power over individuals. Contact your attorney general’s office. If the amount is small enough you can sue in small claims court and in some states they use mediation which is cheap or free.
Based on this guys address, contact the local courthouse in his area/town and ask to speak to the court administrator. Without giving out details, ask this person for information on how to contact the local Bar Association. The local Bar Association will be able to help you from there.
The Bar Association for the Municipality where he practices law - Like the Maine Bar Association - I know Georgia has one - I assume Maine does as well. As far as getting money back, you’ll probably have to sue the attorney. You have to ask yourself - is it worth the attorney fees if I don’t win…..
